Limousines in the 1700s
Being chauffeured through town in an elegant and luxurious manner has been around since the 1700s. Before automobiles came along, the rich and powerful could afford to cruise around town in the finest of horse-drawn carriages. Some of which would even be covered in gold!
Where did Limousines come from?
What's notable about Limousines are that the driver and passengers are in separate compartments. In fact, the word "limousine" comes from the French word "limoges", a province in France where the idea of covered compartments came from the cloaks often worn by shepherds in the area.
The modern Limousine
The first automotive limousine was created in 1902, but it wasn't until 1928 that the first "stretch limousine" was developed by a company called Armbruster from Arkansas. These vehicles increased in popularity, often being used for transporting groups of people such as band members, movie stars, and even political figures. Today, limousines can be rented at quite an affordable price compared to the cost years ago. You can now call up limousine services for business and corporate meetings, holiday light tours, honeymoons and anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, quinceaneras, and more! All at a reasonable price.
